LEARN FROM ALMOST-ACCIDENTS - IMPLEMENTATION OF A COMPREHENSIVE ACCIDENT PREVENTION STRATEGY

Iceberg model

According to DGUV statistics there were 1,076,861 workplace and commuting accidents in Germany in 2009.

As with an iceberg the visible peak of workplace accidents (with 830 deaths) is relatively small compared to the amount of critical events under the water surface.
In 2008, the accident insurance carriers rendered 8,306 billion Euros for the sector trade, industrial economy and the public authorities alone for compensatory payments after insured events.

The damage in the economy caused through these failures and outages and especially through the far higher number of almost-accidents may be far higher according to New Solutions estimations and thus comprise a several digit billion Euro amount - in addition to the personal suffering of the people involved.

Iceberg Model - Almost-accidents

Almost-accidents can be valuable references for the work safety and quality management. You need consistent operational data collection in order to be able to draw consequences from critical events and actions. Finito Digital Shift Book allows the structured collection, categorization, allocation of causes and prioritization of incidents and measures.

This way the above mentioned follow-up costs to the national economy are to be reduced by a many-billion Euro level which can in single cases lead to a clear decrease of accidents and thus as a side-effect to a clear profit increase for individual companies.
